Podcast - Episode 101: Trinity (DC) by Matt Wagner

We are kicking off our Summer Book Club with Matt Wagner's 2003 DC miniseries, Trinity!

First of all, apologies for the lower quality sound this week. We used a room mic and it picks up a lot of things our mics usually don't, like pages flipping. It was an emergency fix to a technical problem that we'll have fixed for next week.

But let's look at Matt Wagner's beautiful versions of Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman

Nice.

Here's grumpy Batman being carried by Superman in his little harness:

And here's that scene from Batman and Grendel that I was talking about. Matt Wagner makes cool choices for scenes where some people might just have a character standing still and talking on the phone:

Enjoy the episode. We'll be back next week to talk about Sexcastle!

I'll leave you with this group picture of the coolest people at D23.

My boy looks so good!

Podcast - Episode 97: Spider-Man (2002)

The release of Spider-Man: Homecoming is nigh so Dave and I have decided to spend the next three episodes revisiting the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy.

This week we also were dismayed to learn of the passing of Adam West. Here is a link to the Lookwell pilot:

And here`s a link to the entire Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt:

And related to Spider-Man, here is a link to the screen test for a Green Goblin mask that was closer to the comic book design:

And, finally, here is the teaser trailer for the 1985 Spider-Man Cannon Films movie that was never made:

Weird.

Thanks for listening! See you next week for Spider-Man 2!

Podcast - Episode 81: The Lego Batman Movie

We got slammed by a giant, unending blizzard this week and it stranded us in our respective homes. So this episode was recorded over the phone, which means I sound FANTASTIC and Dave sounds like he's over the phone. But we are both bringing our A-game, don't worry.

Not gonna lie, it takes us awhile to get around to talking about The Lego Batman Movie, but we do discuss it.

First we talk about Marvel's upcoming Secret Empire event (aka - The HydraCap event). I am VERY into this cover for issue #0:

HydraCap can GET. IT.

We talk about the third episode of Riverdale for a bit. You can see my old blog post that breaks down the Archie comic where Dilton offers to write songs for The Archies, is rejected, and instead starts his own cool band, here.

Alright. Enjoy! My arms are tired and sore from shoveling.

Podcast - Episode 80: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

They. Just. Keep. Getting. Worse!

This has to be the worst one, right? This week we watching X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, and, yeah...that is not a good movie.

But at least it has GAMBIT, right??!! YEAAAAHHH!!!

Ugh. How do you make Taylor Kitsch look that bad? Honestly.

Here's stupid ol' Logan laying waste to the poor elderly couple's bathroom:

Moron.

As I mention, there was a very important news piece this week that aired on Fox5 in New York. It was a gripping investigation into the work-out routine of Sebastian Stan as he prepares to bulk up to play Winter Soldier again. This is good journalism, guys.

You should really watch the whole video. It's important to follow the news. And there is grunting:

And if you're interested, here is the art I bought from Chris Samnee, now hanging on my bedroom wall.

Here's a better look at the Winter Soldier sketch on the invoice:

It's SO GOOD!!!

Big thanks again to Heather for getting these to me from the States.

Alright,  next week we're watching The Wolverine. And tonight we're seeing The Lego Batman movie!

Podcast - Episode 72: Superhero Romance!

This week we are talking about SUPERHERO ROMANCE!!!! Would it have made more sense to wait until February for this topic? Probably! Do I pretty much want to talk about superhero romances all the time? Yes.

Oh, superhero romance.

Before we get to that, here is that tweet of mine that went viral for whatever reason:

Again, I want to clarify: the original tweet by @Glamourizes is poetry. I love it.

Oh! And you can follow Living Between Wednesdays on Twitter now!

Here is the Omaze contest where you and three friends can be trapped in an escape room in Boston with Chris Evans.

If I win he is never getting out of that room.

If I win he is never getting out of that room.

Alright! On to the romance!

Here is the final page in the the sad and epic love story of Black Widow and Winter Soldier. The evil Red Room assassin, Leo Novokov, made sure Natasha would never remember her romance with poor ol' Bucky:

Bucky's life is extremely good.

Bucky's life is extremely good.

The depressing icing on the sadness cake is that Bucky refuses to even let SHIELD try to help restore that part of her memories because "She's better off without me." UGH! Bucky!!!!

Here's my girl Catwoman getting some late night action from Batman. I love how she handles him. And I super love that whip around the neck as she leads him down the stairs:

Flame emoji.

Flame emoji.

And here's my favourite Captain America love interest...BERNIE!!!

That's my girl!

That's my girl!

Damn! Right off the bat she's laying it on thick! I love this woman.

"One what?"   "A crush on Josh!"

"One what?"   "A crush on Josh!"

Bernie!!!!

This is seriously the most comfortable I've seen him with a woman. But it might be because they are talking about classic Hollywood movies:

I picture Steve doing a bang-on Bacall impression here.

And here are a couple of panels from Captain America #289, when Bernie fantasizes about being BERNIE AMERICA!!!

Side note: it is very difficult to Google "Bernie America" these days if you want this result.

I see no difference here between regular Steve Rogers and this version of him.

And let's end it on this recent screengrab from my Avengers Academy game, which is extremely relevant:

Podcast - Episode 69: Everything is Awful

Well...

...comic books don't seem so important all of a sudden, but we are gonna try to talk about them anyway! It just might be interspersed with some angry statements, confused and bewildered feelings, and barely concealed terror.

In these troubled times, we turn to superheroes, and Dave has some comic book recommendations if you are looking for inspiration.

Here's that page from All-Star Superman that Dave was describing. Just a perfect summary of everything that Superman is and should be on one page:

And here are the pages where Cap realizes that he needs to stick with America through thick and thin. He takes off that deep-v Nomad suit and puts the much less revealing Captain America suit back on:

And here's a panel from The Avengers 1.1, which came out this past week, where Steve Rogers describes how we all feel:

Oh, and on top of everything else, Sebastian Stan has indeed shaved his beard. We're back to stubble. So consider Beard Watch '16 closed.

Still looks good, though. Still looks real good.
